It’s Not Just About Deliverables

Over the past year, building Clickaroo, I’ve learned something important to me about running a service business.
It’s not just about deliverables.
Yes, you define scope. You agree on timelines, outputs, retainers, and what gets delivered each month. That matters.
But the deeper I get into this journey, the more I realize real partnership requires something beyond that.
It requires genuine investment in the success of the client’s business.
That means spending more time understanding the nuances of their operation than you originally anticipated. Asking harder questions. Having conversations outside the scope of work. Thinking more deeply about the pressures they’re facing and the realities of trying to sustain and grow a business today.
Because if you truly care about outcomes, you can’t only focus on the tasks you promised to complete.
You have to care about the business itself.
I think too many agencies operate transactionally. Deliver the assets. Send the invoice. Move on.
But for me, the only way this works long term is by being truly service-oriented.
That means adapting when new challenges emerge. Recognizing when strategy needs to evolve. And being willing to have conversations about realignment when necessary.
Businesses are built by people carrying enormous pressure and responsibility. Agencies and service providers should never forget that.
The more human we become in how we support our clients, the more valuable our work actually becomes.
